Make OR Break Factor

We had no precedent to learn from as this was India’s first case of residential structure strengthening using fibre-wrapping.

THE CHALLENGE :

  • A residential structure was extensively damaged in the 2001 Gujarat earthquake, and was unsuitable for continued inhabitation.

THE ODDS :

  • 80 out of the 88 columns on the ground floor had failed

OUR RESPONSE :

  • Pre-commencement, the existing structure was supported and jacked up to prevent it from collapsing during repairs
  • Intense and detailed evaluations were carried out to evaluate extent of damage
  • All cracked RCC members were grouted
  • All RCC columns and beams were jacketed
  • All RCC members were fibre wrapped
  • Some of the concrete slabs were recast
  • The facade was repaired and given its finishing touches
